Vocal Remover — YouTube karaoke, instant MR

Vocal removal takes advantage of the fact that almost all modern pop places the vocal in the stereo center channel (equal level in the left and right). ToneBrowser analyses that center channel band by band, attenuating the vocal while preserving as much of the instrumentation as possible.

Which songs it works best on

Best results: pop, K-pop, and Western pop released in the last five years, where the mix has an accurate center image.

Reasonable results: 2000s ballads and rock.

Low removal: mono mixes (live recordings, older masters) and experimental mixes where the vocal is already panned left or right.

Try it on any song first; if the result is not satisfying, switch the preset to "Center Cancel Aggressive" or lift the low end slightly with the EQ to improve it.

Why it is powerful together with pitch shift

Set the key to your own range first with a preset or the slider, then turn vocal removal on, and a custom backing track in your key is finished on the spot. There is no longer any need to search for an MR file, download it, and edit it.

Busking and streaming

For busking, send the MR-ed sound from ToneBrowser to a Bluetooth speaker and sing live on top of it. For streaming, a real-time karaoke mode lets you sing along with your viewers.

Make an MR from a YouTube video in 3 steps

  1. 1Open the original song in ToneBrowser (for example the official music video).
  2. 2Move the pitch slider to your range (use the MAN / GIRL presets).
  3. 3Toggle vocal remover on. The vocal drops and an instrumental-only mix is generated in real time.

Take the music into your own hands.
